Embroidered Pillow

Here is a pillow I just finished. I got the idea for this pillow from a piece of marbleized will that I've had for a few years. I didn't want to cut it up for hooking as it was so unusual. Recently, I was looking through some of blue wool, and there it was. It reminded me of snowy branches, so I embroidered a wool bird on top. Soon, it was a pillow!

I love finding other uses for wool, especially pieces that are too beautiful too cut up. The rug that I am hooking now has several houses in it, and I may embroider a roof onto a piece of wool and attach it to the rug instead of hooking that particular element. I've been wanting to try it, and as soon as I do, I'll show you the results.

Anyway, here is the pillow. I think it will look nice for the winter months.

By the Sea -- in progress!

I've begun work on the rug pattern I purchased from Karla Gerard called "By the Sea." I had it enlarged at Kinko's and got started right away! This rug has such fun elements in it, I couldn't wait.

Originally, I thought I'd choose a color palette of five or six colors and work from there with different values and shades. But, soon I realized that I wanted to put all kinds of colors in it!

So, here is my progress so far:

Also, I hope you will check out my wool and pattern auctions at Etsy and Ebay. Lots of colors and binding tape, too! Links are on the side of my blog.

Happy hooking!

Karla Gerard

I just ordered and received very quickly three rug hooking patterns from Karla Gerard. I purchased these rug patterns on Ebay. The designs come as paper patterns, and included is a slip granting permission to shrink or enlarge. Very helpful if you are going to Staples or Kinko's to size to your liking. Also included is a small color print of the painting associated with the pattern. Here's what I got:

By the Sea

Seaside Cat

9 P.M.

Not sure which one I'll start with, but I do plan on enlarging them. I love all the detail in these patterns and look forward to adding my own color choices.
