Ballston Creek Preserve

Hiked into the Ballston Creek Preserve in Malta, NY last Saturday. The trail was a bit muddy, but the end was well worth a bit of dirt. At the end of this wooded trail, we came upon a Great Blue Heron rookery. Along with the herons, was a nesting Great Horned Owl and two owlets. An awesome sight!

Here are some photos. Some may appear a bit blurry. The nests were quite a distance from the trail.

As a bonus, I saw what someone told me is a leopard frog. Nature sure gave him his defense with that coloring!

We'll be heading to Delaware soon to bird in the Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge. Hope to see lots of migratory birds!

Enjoy your week!

Latest rug - in progress

Working on a rug right now that shows a collection of tourmaline minerals. Sometimes called "watermelon slices," these minerals are a beautiful blend of pinks, greens and deep eggplant colors. Since the greens and pinks are one of my favorite color combos, I decided to hook a small mat featuring these rocks. Several of my fellow hookers said that they have tourmaline jewelry. I think that would be a great accompaniment to the rug!!!

Playing with Pastels

Over the weekend I got out my pastels and drew my version of the American Birder's Association cover photo. For a first time stab at pastels, I was pleased with the results and loved the way the colors blended.
